Garcia's Late Homer Leads to Reddie Comeback Win

MONTICELLO, Ark. — Henderson State University scored three runs in the ninth inning to rally past the University of Arkansas at Monticello 6-4 on Friday at Union Bank Park.

The Reddies (8-5, 2-5 GAC) trailed 4-3 entering the ninth before capitalizing on a pair of errors. With two outs, Tanner Ross reached on a miscue at shortstop after Tripp Campbell drew a walk. Pinch runner Trevor Flake moved into scoring position, and Adam Garcia followed with a three-run home run to left that put Henderson State in front.

Garcia finished with four RBIs, including a run-scoring groundout in the fourth inning that tied the game at 1. He was also hit by a pitch and scored twice.

Henderson State first broke through in the fifth. Caleb Bryant walked and stole second before Campbell lined a double to left to score him for a 2-1 lead.

The Reddies added a run in the eighth when Boe Rodriguez doubled to right center and scored on a single by Cooper McClure to push the margin to 3-1.

Arkansas-Monticello (8-6, 6-1 GAC) answered in the bottom of the eighth. A walk and a wild pitch set up a two-run double from Drew Floyd, and Camden Tanner drove in the go-ahead run with a groundout to give the Boll Weevils a 4-3 edge.

Ethan Roark started for Henderson State and worked 6 1/3 innings. He allowed one run on six hits, struck out 10, and walked one. Roark struck out at least 10 batters for the second consecutive outing. Tyler Bates (1-1) earned the win despite surrendering three runs in 1 2/3 innings. Rhett Richardson recorded the final three outs for his third save.

The teams continue the series with a doubleheader in Monticello beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
