Reddies Fall to Bisons, Keep Season Alive

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Despite an 11-0 run in the last four minutes of the game, Henderson State University dropped a 67-66 decision to Harding University on Saturday at Duke Wells Center.

Regardless of the loss, Henderson State secured a berth in the Great American Conference Tournament, which begins next week in Fort Smith. The Reddies will enter postseason play as the number 8 seed after finishing the regular season 11-17 overall and 8-14 in league action.


Harding (21-7, 17-5 GAC) led for most of the afternoon and built a 14-point advantage midway through the second half. Henderson State responded with a 42-point second half and cut the margin to one in the final seconds.


Keyln McBride scored 21 points to pace Harding. He hit 7 of 13 shots from the field and added four assists. Reggie Webster led Henderson State with 15 points, while Thompson Camara and Ty Suess each added 12.


The Bisons shot 55.8 percent from the floor, including 18 of 27 in the second half. Henderson State shot 43.9 percent and made 11 3-pointers.


Trailing 62-57 with just over three minutes left, the Reddies closed within 62-61 on a pull-up jumper by KJ Sykes. After a Webster 3-pointer with 1:20 remaining gave Harding a 65-61 edge, Henderson State answered with a layup by Hunter-Mack Nelms to make it 65-63.


McBride pushed the lead to 67-63 with 18 seconds left. Xavier Owens drained a 3-pointer with 14 seconds remaining to pull the Reddies within one. Henderson State forced a turnover in the closing seconds but could not convert before time expired.


The Reddies finished with a 38-26 edge in points in the paint and received 19 points from the bench. Henderson State also held a 10-0 advantage in fast-break points.
