ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Reddies (8-6, 1-3) continued their home series against Arkansas-Monticello with a double header today. The Reddies defeated the Cotton Blossoms in game one 7-2 and held on to win 2-1 in game two.
Game One: Henderson State 7, Arkansas-Monticello 2
Henderson State opened the game early, as
Hilary Akers hit a triple to advance to third.
Penelope Foote advanced on a fielder's choice, then stole second, before a wild pitch scored Akers. Monticello was able to tie it in the fourth, before Henderson State used the fifth inning to surge ahead.
Mazzi Jones started the inning off with a single to right center, before a double by Akers scored Jones. An error aided in scoring Akers, while Foote reached first.
Josie Golden walked to load the bases, then
Macy Hoskins was hit by a pitch to score Foote.
Abby Brinkley hit a single to center to score Copeland and the other runners advanced. A fielder's choice scored Golden, which allowed
Jay Albiter to reach first, with the Reddies leading 6-1.
Henderson State scored another run in the sixth inning. Akers singled up the middle to put one on base. After stealing second, and advancing to third on an error, Foote singled to center to bring Akers home. While UAM managed one more run in the top of the seventh, the Reddies held them to only one run and won game one 7-2.
The Reddies scored seven runs off nine hits, with Akers going 3-4 with a double, a triple, and an RBI, while Brinkley went 2-3 with an RBI.
Jersey Cabana (3-3) pitched a complete game, giving up only two runs on five hits, striking out one while walking one. Makenzie Martin (2-6) was given the loss.
Game Two: Henderson State 2, Arkansas-Monticello 1
The scoring in game two didn't open until the third inning, where a double by
Josie Copeland got the scoring run on base. A single by
Josie Golden scored pinch runner
Kyndlee Clark, and Henderson State led 1-0.
The Reddies held UAM scoreless until the seventh inning, where they managed to tie the game 1-1. A double by Golden put the winning run on base in the bottom of the seventh, and
Macy Hoskins hit the walk-off single to score Golden, winning game two for Henderson State 2-1.
Henderson State scored two runs off six hits, with Golden going 2-2 with a double and an RBI. Hoskins went 1-1 with the walk off RBI.
Presley Applegate (6-2) pitched another complete game, giving up one run on four hits, and struck out five with no walks. Kayla Olthouse (1-2) earned the loss for UAM.

Henderson State will hit the road again next week, and will play a double header against Delta State on March 4th with the first game scheduled to begin 2:00 P.M.
