Reddies Swept in Mid-Week Against Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Reddies (9-8, 3-3) traveled to Cleveland, Mississippi to face off against Delta State in a double header today. Henderson State lost game one 4-2, and then fell in five innings in game two, 8-0.

Game One: Henderson State 2, Delta State 4
Henderson State opened the game late, scoring the first run of the game in the third inning as a double by Macy Hoskins scored Penelope Foote, who'd reached base on a fielder's choice. The Lady Statesmen immediately recaptured the lead scoring two runs in the bottom of the third, leading 2-1.

The Reddies managed to tie the game 2-2 in the fifth inning after Mazzi Jones reached base on a single, then was scored via a single by Foote. Delta State unfortunately retook the lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth. The offense couldn't get another run, and the Reddies fell 4-2.

Henderson State scored two runs on 10 hits, with Penelope Foote leading, going 3-4 with an RBI. Hilary Akers went 3-4 with a double, and Macy Hoskins recorded a hit with an RBI. Jersey Cabana (3-4) earned the start today, pitching a complete game, while giving up four runs on seven hits, recording four strikeouts with two walks. Maeve Lavoy earned the win.

Game Two: Henderson State 0, Delta State 8
Delta State was slow to strike, eventually scoring two runs in the third to take a quick 2-0 lead. In the fourth inning, they struck hard, scoring five to take a 7-0 lead, before ending the game in the fifth inning by scoring the eighth unanswered run.

The Reddies recorded four hits in game two, with Josie Copeland mustering a 2-3 performance with a double. Kyndlee Clark stole two bases for Henderson State, while Langley Miller stole one. Presley Applegate (6-3) earned the loss, giving up seven runs on ten hits in 3.2 innings. Kendal Moore pitched the shut out for Delta State.

Up next -
Henderson State will head to Searcy, Arkansas to face Harding in a three-game series. The Reddies will open with a double header on Friday March 6th, with the first game scheduled to begin at 2:00 P.M.
