Softball Splits First Series of 2026 Against Christian Brothers

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Reddies opened the 2026 season with a double header against Christian Brothers, falling in the first 11-2, before coming back strong, winning in five innings 8-0, and ultimately splitting the series 1-1 at Dee White Field.

GAME ONE: Henderson State 2, Christian Brothers 11
The Reddies (1-1, 0-0 GAC) kept it even in the bottom of the first, holding the score tied 1-1, but that was the last hold they had for the rest of the game, as Christian Brothers (1-1, 0-0 GSC) scored three in the seventh, two in the second, third, and the sixth, and one in the first and fourth to run away with the victory. The Buccaneers hit two home runs in the game, which drove in four of their 11 runs.

The Reddies were held to six hits, with Josie Copeland and Penelope Foote each going 2-4. Foote and Macy Hoskins drove in both the runs for the Reddies, while Josie Golden recorded a double.

GAME TWO: Henderson State 8, Christian Brothers 0
Henderson State set the tone early, using a strong first inning to score five, and didn't look back.

The first inning saw the Reddies rotate through all nine batters, with Hilary Akers starting with a single up the middle. Macy Hoskins singled to reach first, advancing Akers to second, before a double by Josie Copeland scored Akers, and Hoskins advanced to third. After Josie Golden walked, Mazzi Jones singled to center, bringing home both Hoskins and Copeland. Alyx Frost's single brought Golden and Jones home, clearing the bases.

Henderson State continued to put on the pressure, as an Akers triple in the second was followed by a single for Penelope Foote to bring Akers home.
In the bottom of the fourth, Hoskins and Copeland both singled, putting two on base for Golden, who's double scored Hoskins from second. Jones was hit by a pitch, and Sam Flores walked to score Copeland from third.

Pitcher Presley Applegate held Christian Brothers scoreless through five innings, only sacrificing two hits and three walks on the night, while fanning two.
