ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Reddies began the long road trip with a visit to Williams Baptist, hosted at Greene County Tech in Paragould, Arkansas. They went 1-1 in the double header today, falling in game one 4-5 in extra innings, then winning 9-2 in game two.
GAME ONE: Henderson State 4, Williams Baptist 5
The Reddies (2-2, 0-0 GAC) took an early lead in the first inning off an error by Williams Baptist (3-1, 0-0), and
Penelope Foote scored after stealing second. In the bottom of the second, the Eagles scored two to capture the lead. They extended their lead with a run in the third, before Henderson State surged to the top of the sixth. A single by
Jay Albiter scored the first run,
Tatum Bittick hit a sacrifice fly to score the second, and a single by
Hilary Akers scored the third to give the Reddies a 4-3 lead.
The Eagles tied it in the bottom of the sixth and ultimately were able to hold Henderson State scoreless into extra innings and walked it off at the bottom of the eighth.
The Reddies scored four runs off eight hits with Akers and Foote each recording two hits.
Josie Golden recorded a double;
Mazzi Jones and Foote each stole a base.
GAME TWO: Henderson State 9, Williams Baptist 2
Henderson State opened the second game with two early runs, with Akers scoring off an error, and
Macy Hoskins scoring off a sacrifice fly by Jones. The Reddies continued the scoring in the third inning; Foote scored off a single by Hoskins, Jones scored Hoskins on a single, and then Albiter hit a sacrifice fly to score
Josie Copeland.
Williams Baptist finally got on the board in the bottom of the third, scoring one. In the top of the fourth, Akers hit a triple to score Bittick. That was immediately followed by a double by Copeland to score Akers. Golden followed up with her own double to score Copeland. In the fifth inning, the Reddies scored their last run of the game, with Albiter scoring off a fielder's choice. The Eagles only mustered one last run, scoring in the bottom of the fifth.
Josie Copeland went a perfect 4-4 for the Reddies, with two doubles and an RBI.
Hilary Akers went 3-5 with a triple and two RBIs.
Presley Applegate ended the night with another complete game, recording five strikeouts and four walks, only giving up six hits and one earned run for the Reddies.
