Timely Hits Power Reddies to Friday Night Victory

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State used two swings to change the game Friday night.

Nate Moore hit a grand slam in the fifth inning, and Tanner Ross followed with a three-run home run in the seventh to lift the Reddies to a 7-4 win over Missouri Southern State on Friday night at Clyde Berry Field.

Trailing 3-0 through four innings, Henderson State broke through against Missouri Southern starter Walker Sweet in the fifth. Grant Fitch drew a walk and Ty Graf singled to put two on with two outs. Cale Edmonds was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Moore drove a pitch over the wall in left for his first home run of the season, giving the Reddies a 4-3 lead.

Missouri Southern tied the game in the seventh on an RBI single by Jason Lazo, but Henderson State answered in the bottom half.
Adam Garcia drew a walk to open the inning and moved to second on a wild pitch. Edmonds laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Garcia to third. After a strikeout, Mason Krznarich walked to set the table for Ross, who sent a drive to deep left for a three-run homer and a 7-4 advantage.

Henderson State finished with five hits, two leaving the yard and accounting for all seven runs.

Dawson Goines (1-0) started for the Reddies and allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits over five innings while striking out six. Brayden Montes, David Andrus and Rhett Richardson combined to allow one run over the final four innings. Richardson worked the final two frames without allowing a hit to earn the save.

Missouri Southern scored an unearned run in the first inning and added single runs in the second and fifth to build a 3-0 lead. Blake Jones and Jake Johnson each doubled for the Lions, who finished with seven hits.

The Reddies return to action on Saturday, the third day of the 2026 HSU Invitational, as they welcome Fort Hays State to Clyde Berry Field for a 5:00 p.m. first pitch.
