Morgan, Sides Shine in Debuts, Campbell Drives in Three as Reddies Best Fort Hays State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Cade Morgan set the tone in his first appearance on the mound for Henderson State, and Luke Sides proved effective in their Reddie debuts as Henderson State beat Fort Hays State 11-6 on Saturday at Clyde Berry Field.

Morgan drew the start and worked five innings, allowing one run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. The freshman escaped a bases-loaded threat in the first and kept Fort Hays State off the board through four innings. He handed the ball over with a lead before the Tigers pushed across runs in the sixth and seventh.

Sides entered in the seventh with the bases loaded and one out. The left-hander limited the damage and finished with two innings of relief to earn the win in his first outing for Henderson State. He allowed one unearned run, struck out three, and did not surrender a hit. Bates pitched a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts to secure the result in his first appearance for the Reddies.

Henderson State (3-0) struck first in the opening inning. Tanner Ross singled, and Tripp Campbell followed with a double to left that drove him home. Campbell later scored on a throwing error after a single by Boe Rodriguez, giving the Reddies a 2-0 lead.

The Reddies added two more in the third. Rodriguez reached on an error and stole second before Adam Garcia and Caleb Bryant drew walks to load the bases. Cale Edmonds delivered a single to left that scored Rodriguez and Garcia for a 4-0 advantage.

Fort Hays State cut into the lead with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, then tied the game with three runs in the seventh.

Henderson State answered in the bottom half with a six-run inning. Campbell singled to open the frame and later delivered the decisive swing, a ground-rule double to left-center that scored two runs. He finished 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs, producing runs in the first and seventh innings.

Grant Fitch drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home a run, and Nate Moore added a two-run single. Ross followed with a bases-loaded walk before Campbell's double capped the rally.
The Reddies added an insurance run in the eighth on a wild pitch after two walks put runners in scoring position. Henderson State totaled nine hits and drew 12 walks.

HSU baseball returns for the final day of the HSU Invitational on Sunday afternoon; the Reddies have their second match of the weekend with Arkansas-Fort Smith, with first pitch scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
