RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Henderson State scored first, but Arkansas Tech answered with a six-run first inning and pulled away for a 16-2 win Tuesday at Baswell Field.
Henderson State (11-9) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
Tanner Ross drove a pitch to center field for a solo home run, his fifth of the season.
Arkansas Tech (14-10) responded in the bottom half of the inning. Tyler Sardelli hit a two-run home run to give the Wonder Boys the lead. Arkansas Tech added four more runs in the inning with a bases-loaded walk and run-scoring plays that pushed the margin to 6-1.
The Wonder Boys added a run in the second and two more in the third to extend the lead. Henderson State cut the deficit to 7-2 in the fourth when
Cooper McClure singled, scoring Ross.
Arkansas Tech continued to build the lead across the middle innings. The Wonder Boys scored once in the fourth, twice in the fifth, and four times in the sixth. Luke Caussey and Sardelli each homered, and Levi Martin added a three-run shot.
Henderson State finished with four hits. Ross went 1 for 3 with a home run and two runs scored, while
Tripp Campbell added a double.
Derek Rockett earned the win after allowing two runs on four hits in five innings with four strikeouts.
Jayce Moore (1-1) took the loss after allowing six runs in the first inning.
Henderson State returns to action this weekend in Great American Conference play with a home series against Oklahoma Baptist.
