Roark Twirls Complete Game Shutout, Reddie Bats Explode in Friday Night Win

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State scored 11 runs in the first three innings and received a complete-game performance from Ethan Roark in a 12-2 run-rule, seven-inning win over Oklahoma Baptist on Friday at Clyde Berry Field.

Oklahoma Baptist took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Tui Amosa hit a two-out home run to right field. Henderson State answered in the bottom half; Boe Rodriguez reached on a throwing error to start the inning, and Cole McClendon moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. Tanner Ross followed with a two-run home run to left field that gave the Reddies a 2-1 lead.


Henderson State added two runs in the second. Adam Garcia singled and Nate Moore followed with a base hit before Grant Fitch placed a bunt single to load the bases. Cale Edmonds drove in Garcia with a sacrifice fly, and Rodriguez added another sacrifice fly that scored Moore for a 4-1 advantage.


The Reddies broke the game open in the third with seven runs. Ross led off with an infield single and later scored when Garcia lined a ground-rule double to right, plating two runs. Edmonds drew a bases-loaded walk that forced in another run before Rodriguez delivered a bases-clearing, three-RBI double to right-center. McClendon added an RBI groundout later in the inning that pushed the lead to 11-1.


Oklahoma Baptist added its second run in the sixth on a solo home run from Lucas Schaefer.


Henderson State answered in the bottom half when Ross scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 12-2.


Roark (1-1) worked all seven innings for the Reddies. He allowed three hits and two runs while striking out 11, a season high, with no walks.


Ross led Henderson State at the plate with two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. Garcia finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Rodriguez drove in four runs.


Henderson State finished with seven hits and drew five walks in the win. Oklahoma Baptist recorded three hits and struck out 11 times.
