Baseball Falls to Oklahoma Baptist in GAC Doubleheader

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State dropped both games of a doubleheader against Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at Clyde Berry Field.

Game 1: Oklahoma Baptist 12, Henderson State 2


Oklahoma Baptist broke open a close game with a five-run sixth inning and added six more runs in the seventh to defeat Henderson State 12-2 in the first game of the doubleheader.


Henderson State took an early lead in the second inning when Mason Krznarich hit a solo home run to center field. The Reddies added another run in the third after Tanner Ross walked and later scored on Cooper McClure's RBI single to right field, giving Henderson State a 2-0 lead.


Oklahoma Baptist cut the deficit to one in the fifth on Braden Smith's solo home run.


The Bison took control in the sixth inning. After two walks to open the frame, a throwing error allowed Quinn Johnson to score and moved runners into scoring position. Another throwing error brought home Tui Amosa. Matt Marsic followed with an RBI single before Ben Green delivered a two-run double to right center. The five-run inning gave Oklahoma Baptist a 6-2 lead.


Oklahoma Baptist added six runs in the seventh. Amosa hit a solo home run to start the inning, and Lucas Schaefer highlighted the rally with a three-run double. Johnson added an RBI double later in the inning.


Krznarich finished with a home run for Henderson State. McClure recorded two hits and drove in a run, while Nate Moore added two hits.


Dawson Goines (0-2) took the loss after allowing six runs, four earned, over 5.1 innings. Marcus Peters (3-1) earned the win for Oklahoma Baptist with five innings of two-run ball.


Game 2: Oklahoma Baptist 5, Henderson State 0


Oklahoma Baptist used a four-run fifth inning to complete the doubleheader sweep with a 5-0 win in the second game.


The Bison scored the first run in the third inning. Matt Marsic singled, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch.


The game remained 1-0 until the fifth inning when Oklahoma Baptist extended the lead. Marsic tripled to right center to score Keenan Morris. Quinn Johnson followed with a two-run single to center field, and Tui Amosa added an RBI double later in the inning to make it 5-0.


Henderson State threatened in the second and fourth innings but left six runners on base during those two frames. The Reddies finished with three hits in the game.


Cooper McClure led Henderson State with two hits, including a double. Nate Moore added a single.


Rhett Richardson (1-1) took the loss after allowing four runs in 4.2 innings. Cale Edmonds allowed one run in relief. 
Logan Wade (2-2) earned the win for Oklahoma Baptist with four scoreless innings before Teagon Standlee closed the game with three hitless innings.

Henderson State fell to 12-11 overall and 5-10 in conference play. Oklahoma Baptist moved to 12-11 overall and 7-8 in the GAC.
