ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Reddies (9-13, 3-6) held a mid-week doubleheader versus the Bulldogs of Union University (Tennessee) today, falling in game one 4-2, and in game two 3-2.
Game One: Henderson State 2, Union (TN) 4
Union opened the game in the first inning, scoring the first run off a sacrifice fly, before extending their lead to 3-0 after scoring two more runs in the third inning. The Bulldogs finished their scoring with a final run in the fourth inning to lead 4-0.
The Reddie offense came alive in the sixth inning, scoring the lone two runs of the game.
Josie Copeland singled to get a runner on base, before
Langley Miller doubled to left center to score Copeland. Miller then advanced to third on an error.
Jay Albiter hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Miller to put the score at 4-2. The Reddies couldn't mount any more offense and lost game one 4-2.
Henderson State scored two runs on five hits, with
Jay Albiter recording the lone RBI, while
Josie Copeland went 2-3 with a double, and
Langley Miller went 1-1 with a double.
Presley Applegate (6-5) pitched a complete game, giving up four runs on six hits, recording four strikeouts and two walks.
Game Two: Henderson State 2, Union (TN) 3
Game two began much better for Henderson State, as they took a 2-0 lead in the second inning off a home run by
Macy Hoskins. A walk by
Josie Golden put the first runner on base, then Hoskins blasted a hit to deep left field for her second home run of the season.
The Reddies held the 2-0 lead until the seventh inning, when Union rallied to score all three runs to win the game 3-2.
Henderson State recorded two runs on three hits, with
Macy Hoskins going 1-2 with a home run and two RBIs.
Jersey Cabana started for the Reddies pitching 6.1 innings and giving up one run on seven hits, while recording a strikeout and two walks.
Presley Applegate (6-6) earned the loss after giving up two runs on three hits in relief.
