SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Reddies (9-16, 3-9) continued their series against the #14-ranked Bison of Oklahoma Baptist with a doubleheader today, falling in game one 6-5, then falling 5-3 in the second game.
Game One: Henderson State 5, Oklahoma Baptist 6
The Bison opened the game with a two-run second inning, but the Reddies responded with their own two-run inning in the third.
Hilary Akers doubled to open the inning, before a single by
Penelope Foote scored Akers.
Abby Brinkley doubled to score Foote from second, and Henderson sat tied 2-2. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Oklahoma Baptist surged with three runs to take a 5-2 lead.
In the fifth, the Reddies responded, as
Josie Copeland singled, before pinch runner
Tatum Bittick managed to steal second, then scored when
Annie Stonesifer tried to steal second. Then in the fifth inning, Henderson State tied the game after
Macy Hoskins singled to right, then
Mazzi Jones singled to left to advance Hoskins to third. A single by Akers brought both Hoskins and Jones home, and the score sat at 5-5. In the bottom of the sixth, the Bison scored a run to take a 6-5 lead, and held off the Reddies in the seventh to win the first game.
The Reddies scored five runs on eight hits, with
Hilary Akers going a perfect 3-3 with two RBIs and a double.
Abby Brinkley went 1-2 with a double and an RBI.
Jersey Cabana (3-7) pitched a complete game, giving up six runs on eight hits, while recording three strikeouts and three walks.
Game Two: Henderson State 3, Oklahoma Baptist 5
The Reddies were the first to strike in game two, as
Hilary Akers doubled to get on base. A grounder by
Penelope Foote advanced Akers to third, then a double by
Josie Copeland scored Akers. The Bison responded in the second inning, scoring three to take a 3-1 lead. In the fourth inning, the Reddies tied it up, as
Josie Golden singled, and was then brought home by a home run by
Abby Brinkley to make it 3-3.
The Reddies held Oklahoma Baptist scoreless the rest of regulation, forcing overtime. Then, in the bottom of the eighth, the Bison hit a game-winning home run to secure the sweep with a 5-3 win.
The Reddies scored three runs on nine hits, with Brinkley going 1-3 with a home run and 2 RBIs.
Josie Copeland went 1-4 with an RBI.
Presley Applegate (6-8) pitched another complete game, giving up five runs on seven hits, recording three strikeouts and three walks.
