Ross's Four Home Runs Lead Reddies in Doubleheader Sweep of Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, Okla. — Henderson State baseball completed a doubleheader road sweep of Southern Nazarene on Friday, using late offense in the opener and pitching control in the nightcap. Today's wins clinch the series for the Reddies, who hope to complete a series sweep with a win on Saturday.

Game 1: Henderson State 15, Southern Nazarene 11


Henderson State erased an early deficit with a series of scoring bursts to take the opener.

After a quiet first inning by both teams, Southern Nazarene scored five runs in the second inning to build a 5-1 lead. Henderson answered with a run in the third and another in the fourth before taking control in the fifth.

Tanner Ross led the offense, finishing 4-for-5 with three home runs and six RBIs. His two-run home run in the fifth inning gave the Reddies a 6-5 lead. He added a two-run home run in the eighth as part of a three-run inning.


Henderson State tied the game at 8-8 in the seventh as part of a four-run inning. Key hits included an RBI single by Adam Garcia and a run-scoring groundout by Cooper  McClure.


The Reddies added three runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth to extend the lead to 15-11.


Brayden Montes (2-2) earned the win in relief, allowing three runs over 2.2 innings. Tyler Bates recorded the final four outs for his third save.


Game 2: Henderson State 5, Southern Nazarene 0


Henderson State used a combined two-hit shutout to complete the doubleheader sweep. Rhett Richardson (2-1) earned the win, allowing two hits over six innings with seven strikeouts. Cale Edmonds pitched a scoreless seventh inning to close the game.


The Reddies scored the first run on a solo home run by Austin Fitch in the third inning. Henderson State added two insurance runs in the fifth on an RBI single by McClure and a run-scoring groundout by Fitch.


HSU extended the lead in the seventh inning on a two-run home run by Ross. McClure recorded two hits and an RBI for the Reddies. Henderson finished with six hits and did not commit an error. 


The Reddies improved to 15-11 on the season, while Southern Nazarene fell to 5-22. The series concludes Saturday with a single, nine-inning game at 1:00 p.m.
