Reddies Score Early, Often in 22-5 Run Rule win over Southern Nazarene, Complete Weekend Sweep

BETHANY, Okla. — Henderson State completed a weekend sweep with a 22-5 run-rule win over Southern Nazarene on Saturday in the series finale.

The Reddies (16-11) scored in six of seven innings and broke the game open with an eight-run fifth inning and a six-run sixth. HSU finished with 17 hits and drew seven walks.


Dawson Goines (1-2) earned the win in a complete-game effort. The right-hander allowed five runs on seven hits, struck out eight, and walked one over seven innings.


Henderson State took an early lead in the first inning when Nate Moore doubled, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch. The Reddies added two runs in the second on a two-run single by Adam Garcia.


The lead grew to 5-0 through four innings before Henderson State put the game out of reach in the fifth. Mason Krznarich drove in two runs with a double, Moore added a two-run single, and Tripp Campbell hit a three-run home run as part of the eight-run frame.


The Reddies added six runs in the sixth inning, taking advantage of walks, hit batters, and a pair of RBI singles from Trevor Flake and Grant Fitch. Henderson State capped the scoring with three runs in the seventh: Caleb Bryant was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Fitch drove in two with his RBI single. All six of the Reddie runs were scored with two outs in the inning.


Krznarich led the offense with three hits and two RBI. Cale Edmonds scored a team-high four runs and added two hits. Garcia drove in four runs, and Campbell finished with three RBI, all coming on his home run.


Southern Nazarene (5-23) scored three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh. Maikah Gonzalez highlighted the inning with a two-run triple. Garrett Payne took the loss for Southern Nazarene, allowing 10 runs on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings.
