ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Reddies (11-16, 4-9) defeated Southern Nazarene in the opening game of the three-game home series against the Crimson Storm. Henderson State mustered a 3-2 win behind some strong pitching and solid hitting.
Henderson State struck first in the opening inning as
Hilary Akers hit a triple to right field to put the scoring run on base.
Josie Copeland singled to center field to score Akers, and Henderson State led 1-0.
Southern Nazarene scored two runs in the top of the second to take the lead, before Henderson State tied it up in the bottom of the third.
Abby Brinkley doubled to center before a single by
Jay Albiter scored pinch runner
Annie Stonesifer from second, and the Reddies tied it up 2-2.
Henderson State put the winning run on the board in the fourth inning off a single by Hoskins. Hoskins stole second before advancing to third on an infield single by Akers.
Tatum Bittick hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Hoskins, and the Reddies held the Crimson Storm scoreless the rest of the game, winning 3-2.
The Reddies secured three runs on 10 hits, with
Hilary Akers going a perfect 3-3 with a triple, and
Abby Brinkley went 2-3 with a double.
Presley Applegate (7-8) earned the start tonight, pitching a complete game. Applegate gave up two runs on five hits, while securing two strikeouts against three walks.
