Reddie Softball Sweeps Southern Nazarene, Extends Win Streak

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Reddies (13-16, 6-9) swept the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene to extend their win-streak to four games today, defeating SNU in a doubleheader 6-3 in game one and 6-2 in game two.

Game One: Henderson State 6, Southern Nazarene 3
Henderson State got on the board first in the first inning, with Akers getting on base with an infield single. Tatum Bittick to put two runners on base, and then Josie Copeland hit a double to left center to score both runs, giving the Reddies a 2-0 lead. Jay Albiter struck a single to right center to score Copeland from second, and the Reddies exited the first inning up 3-0.

Southern Nazarene scored three runs in the top of the second to tie the game 3-3, and Henderson State responded. Macy Hoskins singled to right field, then Mazzi Jones singled to left to put the first two runners on base, then Akers walked to load the bases. A sac fly by Bittick scored Hoskins, before Copeland reached on a fielder's choice to keep two runners on base after Jones was out at home. Abby Brinkley hit a double to clear both Akers and Copeland from the field, and Henderson stood with a 6-3 lead.

Henderson State's defense settled in the rest of the game, holding SNU scoreless for the rest of the game, and the Reddies claimed the game one win 6-3.

The Reddies secured six runs on seven hits, with Abby Brinkley and Josie Copeland each recording a double and two RBIs. Jersey Cabana (5-7) earned the start in game one, pitching a complete game. Cabana gave up three runs on four hits, while striking out two and walking three.

Game Two: Henderson State 6, Southern Nazarene 2
In game two, Southern Nazarene was the first to get on the board, hitting a home run to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, Henderson State started with Hilary Akers hitting a single to left field. Tatum Bittick was hit by a pitch to put two runners on, before a grounder by Josie Copeland advanced the runners. Josie Golden then blasted a home run to put Henderson up 3-1 after the first inning.

SNU would respond in the second inning, scoring a run to make the score 3-2, but the Reddies kept it on, scoring two more runs in the second. Macy Hoskins singled to left, before scoring from first after a throwing error allowed Hilary Akers to advance to third on her single. Another sacrifice fly by Bittick scored Akers from third, giving the Reddies a 5-2 lead after two innings.

Henderson State put on an insurance run in the third inning to make the score 6-2, with Jay Albiter reaching on a single to left field. Aspyn Beattie hit an infield single to advance Albiter, before a bunt by Macy Hoskins scored Albiter after a throwing error by SNU.

Once again, the Reddie defense held strong, preventing any more runs by the Crimson Storm, completing the total sweep and winning game three 6-2.

The Reddies scored six runs on 10 hits, with Hilary Akers going a perfect 2-2 with two walks, while Josie Golden went 2-4 with a double and a home run, securing three RBIs. Presley Applegate (7-8) pitched her second straight complete game, giving up two runs on four hits, recording three strikeouts and two walks.

Henderson State will head on the road for a mid-week doubleheader against Texas Women's. The first game is scheduled for Wednesday March 25th at 3:00 P.M. in Denton, Texas.
