Reddie Softball Swept in Denton

DENTON, Texas - The Reddies (13-18, 6-9) traveled to Denton, Texas to face Texas Women's University in a non-conference mid-week doubleheader today. The Reddies were defeated in both games, falling 5-3 in game one, and then 11-1 in game two.

Game One: Henderson State 3, Texas Women's 5
Henderson State opened the scoring of game one, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Mazzi Jones singled to second to put the first run on base, then Hilary Akers blasted a home run to left field to score Jones, and the Reddies led 2-0.

The Reddies held Texas Women's scoreless until the bottom of the sixth, where they scored five runs to take a 5-2 lead. While the Reddies were able to load the bases, as Josie Golden and Jay Albiter both walked. Aspyn Beattie singled to load the bases, and Macy Hoskins hit into a fielder's choice to score Golden. Unfortunately, the Reddies couldn't score anymore runs, and fell in game one, 5-3.

The Reddies scored three runs on three hits, with Hilary Akers recording two RBIs off of her home run. Macy Hoskins recorded the other RBI for the Reddies. Jersey Cabana (5-8) earned the start for Hendreson, pitching 6 innings and giving up five runs on six hits, while recording two strikeouts and two walks.

Game Two: Henderson State 1, Texas Women's 11
In game two, the Pioneers struck first, scoring three runs in the first, and didn't give up the lead the rest of the way. Henderson State opened the second inning with a double by Sam Flores, and then Jay Albiter scored pinch runner Annie Stonesifer off a sac bunt to give the Reddies a score.

In the bottom of the fourth, Texas Women's scored eight runs to secure the win, clinching a 11-1 win after five innings.

The Reddies scored one run on two hits, while Presley Applegate (8-9) pitched three innings, giving up six runs on nine hits, while striking out one, and walking another.

Up next -
Henderson State return home to host #8-ranked Southern Arkansas in a three-game series. Game one is scheduled for Friday March 27th at 6:00 P.M. at Dee White Field.
