ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Reddies (13-19, 6-10) faced off against the #8-ranked Muleriders of Southern Arkansas in game one of a three game series today, and fell 8-3.
Southern Arkansas struck first in the third inning, hitting a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead. They then extended that lead to 5-0, as they scored two more runs in the fourth inning, and then two more in the sixth inning before the Reddie offense could respond.
In the sixth inning, Henderson State began a valiant comeback, as
Hilary Akers singled to get the first runner on base. A double by
Tatum Bittick scored Akers from first, before Bittick advanced to third on the throw.
Josie Copeland hit a ground out to score Bittick, and the Reddies only trailed 5-2.
Southern Arkansas scored three more runs in the top of the seventh, and held an 8-2 lead going into the final inning for Henderson State. While the Reddies were able to put two more runners on base, they only managed to score one more run, and fell in game one 8-3.
The Reddies scored three runs on five hits, with
Josie Golden leading the team with a 2 for 3 performance with a double.
Tatum Bittick went 1 for 3 with a double and a RBI, while
Josie Copeland went 1-3 with an RBI.
Jersey Cabana (5-9) earned the start, giving up five runs on nine hits, while walking two batters.
