ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Reddies (14-20, 7-11) finished off their home series against #8-ranked Southern Arkansas today with a doubleheader. The Muleriders outlasted the Reddies in game one, 3-1, before
Jay Albiter's grand slam elevated the Reddies to victory in game two, 5-3.
Game One: Henderson State 1, Southern Arkansas 3
Southern Arkansas scored the first runs of the game, scoring two in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Henderson State responded in the fourth inning with a run of their own, as
Tatum Bittick walked and then stole second, before scoring off a double by
Josie Copeland.
The Muleriders scored a third run in the sixth inning to finish off the game with a 3-1 win.
The Reddies mustered one run on six hits, with
Josie Copeland going 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
Josie Golden went 2-3 with a stolen base.
Presley Applegate (7-10) earned the start for Hendreson, pitching 6 innings and giving up three runs on three hits, while recording five strikeouts and five walks.
Game Two: Henderson State 5, Southern Arkansas 3
In game two, Southern Arkansas scored the first run of the game in the first inning. The Reddies responded however, as they came out hot.
Hilary Akers opened the first inning with a single, then Bittick followed with a single to advance Akers to second. An infield single by Copeland loaded the bases, then
Josie Golden scored Akers after getting hit by a pitch.
Jay Albiter then crushed a grand slam to left field, scoring all the runners and giving the Reddies a 5-1 lead.
While Southern Arkansas managed to score two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings, the Reddies held on, and secured the win 5-3.
The Reddies scored five runs on six hits, with
Jay Albiter going 1-3 with a grand slam, bringing in four RBIS.
Aspyn Beattie hit 2-3 while
Josie Golden brought in the other RBI.
Lacey Kelley earned the start, pitching 3 innings, giving up one run on four hits, recording a strikeout and three walks. Before
Jersey Cabana (6-9) came in relief, pitching 2.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits, while striking out one.
Presley Applegate earned a save after pitching the last four outs, striking out one of the batters faced.
