Baseball Drops Midweek Matchup at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. — Henderson State built an early lead but could not hold off Delta State in a 14-10 loss Tuesday at Harvey Stadium.

The Reddies (19-13, 10-11) scored three runs in the first two innings behind home runs from Tripp Campbell and Ryan Wardlaw. Campbell opened the scoring with a solo shot in the first, and Wardlaw added a two-run homer in the second for a 3-0 lead.


Delta State (19-13, 13-8) responded with a seven-run third inning to take control. The Statesmen collected six hits in the frame, with Tucker Jones driving in two runs on a double and later adding an RBI single. Henderson State committed an error in the inning, which led to unearned runs as Delta State pushed ahead 7-3.


Delta State added seven more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Jones and a two-run home run from Levi Lang, extending the lead to 14-3.


HSU answered with a two-run home run from Tanner Ross in the sixth. The Reddies added four runs in the eighth inning, including a two-run single from Ty Graf that was followed by a throwing error that allowed another run to score. Graf finished with two hits and two RBIs.


Ross led Henderson State with three RBIs, while Wardlaw recorded two hits and two RBIs. Campbell scored three runs and reached base four times.


The Reddies added a run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Ross but could not close the gap.


Jayce Moore (1-1) took the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, in 2.1 innings. The Reddies used six pitchers in the game.


Henderson State finished with 10 runs on 11 hits and one error. Delta State recorded 14 runs on 17 hits.
