Ross's Homer in Extras Gives Reddies Friday Night Walkoff Win

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Tanner Ross hit a no-doubt homerun to the deepest part of Clyde Berry Field to complete a comeback and walk off Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday night.

Henderson State (23-14, 13-12 GAC) erased a two-run deficit in the eighth and answered again in the 10th after Northwestern Oklahoma State reclaimed the lead.

The Rangers opened scoring in the fourth on a solo home run from Blake Mattern. Henderson State broke through in the sixth when Nate Moore reached on an error, stole second, moved to third on a flyout, and scored on Ross' RBI single to center, tying the game at 1-1.

Northwestern Oklahoma State (20-21, 11-14 GAC) responded in the seventh. A walk and a single set the table before Alex Dabrowski drove in two runs with a single to center, giving the Rangers a 3-1 lead.

The Reddies answered in the eighth. Trevor Flake, pinch-hitting, opened with a single, and Moore followed with another hit to put runners at the corners. Tripp Campbell drove in Flake with a single to right, and Grant Fitch tied the game with an infield single that brought home Moore.

After a scoreless ninth, the game moved to extras.

In the top of the 10th, Northwestern Oklahoma State put immediate pressure on. Dabrowski led off with a triple down the left-field line. After a strikeout, Chase Gordon executed a squeeze bunt that brought Dabrowski home for a 4-3 lead. Tyler Bates limited further damage with a groundout to keep the deficit at one.

Henderson State answered at once in the bottom half: Moore led off and was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch moved him to second, and Campbell grounded out to first, advancing Moore to third with one out. That set the stage for Ross. After taking a first pitch called strike, the freshman hit a hanging breaking ball into the night to end the game.

Ross finished with two hits and three RBIs, including the game-winner. Moore scored three runs. Campbell and Fitch each drove in a run during the eighth-inning rally.

Bates (3-1) earned the win with one inning of work. Ryan McClaskey (1-2) took the loss for Northwestern Oklahoma State.

The Reddies and Rangers will face off in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. Saturday from Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia.
