ALVA, Okla. - The Reddies (17-24, 8-15) traveled to Alva, Oklahoma to face off against Northwestern Oklahoma State in a three-game series. In the doubleheader today, Henderson State split the two games with the Rangers, losing game one 7-6, and winning game two 2-1.
Game One: Henderson State 6, NWOSU 7
Henderson State got on the board early, scoring three runs in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Hilary Akers opened the game with a walk, before advancing to third on an error, which allowed
Tatum Bittick to reach first. Akers stole home to score the first run, while Bittick stole second. A groundout by
Sam Flores advanced Bittick to third, and then
Josie Golden walked and stole second to put runners on second and third.
Jay Albiter then sliced a double to left field to score both Bittick and Golden.
In the second inning, Northwestern tied the game with three runs off a base-clearing double. The Reddies quickly responded to the top of the third inning, scoring another three runs to take a 6-3 lead. Albiter put the first scoring run on base off a fielder's choice, reaching first.
Paige Brandes singled to left center to advance Albiter to second and put the second run aboard.
Macy Hoskins was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and then all three were brought home by a triple by
Mazzi Jones.
Northwestern recaptured the lead by scoring four unanswered runs, with one coming in the fourth inning, and three in the fifth to lead 7-6. The Rangers held Henderson State off to secure the game one win.
The Reddies recorded six runs on six hits.
Jay Albiter went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Mazi Jones went 1-3 with a 3 RBI triple.
Presley Applegate (9-12) earned the start for the Reddies, pitching 4.2 innings, giving up seven runs on six hits, while recording three strikeouts and four walks.
Game Two: Henderson State 2, NWOSU 1
In game two, Henderson State continued to score early.
Tatum Bittick singled to put the scoring run on board, before advancing to third off a double by
Josie Copeland.
Abby Brinkley walked to load the bases, then Bittick was brought home after
Josie Golden was hit by a pitch. Northwestern managed to score a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game 1-1.
The game remained tied until the fourth inning, when
Jay Albiter walked, then advanced to second on a groundout.
Mazzi Jones doubled to left field to score Albiter, and Henderson State held the Rangers scoreless the rest of the game and claimed a 2-1 victory.
The Reddies scored two runs on three hits, with
Mazzi Jones going 1-3 with the game winning RBI and a double, while
Josie Copeland also recorded a double.
Jersey Cabana (8-10) earned the start for the Reddies, pitching a complete game and surrendering only one run on four hits. Cabana recorded four strikeouts and no walks.
