Reddie Softball Sweeps Bulldogs in Home Doubleheader

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Reddies (20-24, 8-15) hosted the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State today for the first two games of a three-game series. The Reddies won game one 5-4, then completed the doubleheader sweep in game two, winning 4-1.

Game One: Henderson State 5, SWOSU 4
Henderson State opened the game on the board first, as they took a 1-0 lead after Hilary Akers reached on a throwing error. Akers then stole second before advancing to third on a single by Tatum Bittick. Josie Copeland brought Akers home with a sacrifice bunt to take the lead. The Reddies scored another run in the second inning with Jay Albiter hitting a leadoff single. A sacrifice bunt by Paige Brandes advanced Albiter to second, who then scored on a throwing error.

In the third inning, Henderson State continued to advance their lead, as Akers singled to reach first, before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Bittick. A throwing error scored Akers, to give the Reddies a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs finally got on board in the fourth inning, scoring a run to make it 3-1, but then the Reddies extended their in the bottom of the fourth. Albiter opened with a double to left, before advancing to third on a fielding error. A single by Mazzi Jones scored Albiter, and the Reddies led 4-1.

A three-run sixth inning tied it for the Bulldogs, but the Reddies retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth. After getting hit by a pitch, Josie Golden advanced to second after a single by Albiter. A sacrifice bunt by Brandes moved Golden to third, before she scored on a single by Hoskins. The defense held on in the seventh inning and the Reddies won game one 5-4.

The Reddies recorded five runs on eight hits. Jay Albiter went a perfect 3-3 with a double, while Mazzi Jones went 2-3 with an RBI. Presley Applegate (11-12) earned the start for the Reddies, pitching 6.2 innings, giving up four runs on 11 hits, while recording five strikeouts and two walks. Jersey Cabana secured the save for the Reddies, giving up no hits and walking one batter.

Game Two: Henderson State 4, SWOSU 1
In game two, the Reddies struck early, scoring two runs in the first inning. A single by Tatum Bittick put the first runner on base, and then stole second, before moving to third on a single by Josie Copeland. Pinch runner Kyndlee Clark then stole second, before Bittick scored on an infield single by Abby Brinkley. Josie Golden then scored Clark on a sacrifice fly, and the Reddies went into the second inning up 2-0.

Henderson State then extended their lead in the third inning as Bittick struck a solo home run to left field to put the Reddies up 3-0. Southwestern Oklahoma would then score their only run of the game in the fifth inning to make it 3-1, before in the sixth inning, Jay Albiter would hit a solo blast to left field to score the go-ahead run, 4-1. Henderson State would hang on once again, keeping the Bulldogs scoreless in the seventh to clinch the win.

The Reddies scored four runs on eight hits, with Tatum Bittick going 2-4 with a home run and an RBI, Abby Brinkley went 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Jay Albiter would finish the strong hitting day with her own home run and an RBI. Jersey Cabana (11-11) pitched a complete game, giving up only one run on five hits, while recording two strikeouts and walks.
