Baseball Explodes for Ten Runs, Holds On to Defeat Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Henderson State built an early lead and held on for a 10-9 win over Christian Brothers on Tuesday.

The Reddies (26-18) scored six runs in the second inning and added insurance late, then survived a ninth-inning rally to secure the victory.


Henderson State broke the game open in the second. Caleb Bryant delivered a two-run single to center to start the scoring. Nate Moore followed with an RBI single, and Tripp Campbell added another run with a base hit. Tanner Ross capped the inning with a two-run home run to give the Reddies a 6-0 lead.


Henderson State added a run in the sixth when Moore singled home Bryant, then extended the margin in the seventh. Ryan Wardlaw drove in a run with a double, Cale Edmonds followed with an RBI single, and Bryant added another run-scoring hit to push the lead to 10-2.


Bryant finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs. Wardlaw collected three hits and scored twice, while Moore recorded two hits, two RBIs, and two walks.


Christian Brothers (11-33) chipped away late. The Buccaneers scored three runs in the eighth, highlighted by a solo home run from Will Gossett, to cut the deficit to 10-5.


In the ninth, Christian Brothers loaded the bases and scored on a walk before Jordan Rodriquez delivered a three-run double to make it 10-9. Henderson State turned to Luke Sides, who recorded the final out on a strikeout to end the game and earn the save.


Jayce Moore (3-2) earned the win after allowing two runs over four innings. Henderson State used eight pitchers in the game.


Jack Todd (1-1) took the loss for Christian Brothers after giving up six runs in two innings.


Henderson returns to Clyde Berry Field Friday for a three-game series with rival Ouachita Baptist. Game one is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
