Three Run Inning Not Enough, Reddies Fall to Tigers

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State could not hold an early lead as Ouachita Baptist pulled away for a 6-3 win Thursday at Clyde Berry Field.

The Reddies (26-19, 15-16 GAC) struck first with a three-run second inning and carried a 3-1 lead into the middle frames, but Ouachita Baptist answered with runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to claim the conference victory.

Henderson State took control in the second. Grant Fitch opened the inning with a single and Hank Penfield followed with a walk before both advanced on a passed ball. Mason Krznarich brought home the first run with a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, Boe Rodriguez delivered an RBI single, and Nate Moore capped the rally with a triple to right field that scored Rodriguez for a 3-1 lead.

Ouachita Baptist (22-24, 14-17 GAC) answered in the sixth. Jaren Ceasar reached with a single and came around to score on a play that included an error in center field. Joseph Bolin added an RBI single later in the inning to tie the game at 3-3.

The Tigers took the lead in the seventh on a solo home run from Reece McWilliams, his second of the game after a solo shot in the second inning.

Ouachita added two more runs in the eighth. Raygan Yager tripled down the right field line to score a run, and another came home on a failed pickoff attempt as the lead grew to 6-3.

Henderson State threatened at times after the second inning but left eight runners on base and did not score after the third.

Ethan Roark (2-3) took the loss after allowing four runs, three earned, over seven innings with eight strikeouts. Brennan Jarreau allowed two runs in relief, while Brayden Montes recorded the final four outs without allowing a run.

Chase Oberle (4-4) earned the win for Ouachita Baptist, going the distance and striking out 12 while allowing three runs on eight hits.

Fitch led Henderson State with two hits, while Moore drove in a run and recorded the club's lone extra-base hit. Rodriguez also added an RBI in the loss.

The Reddies and Tigers will finish their regular seasons with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 25th. Game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m, with a ceremony honoring HSU seniors prior to first pitch.
