ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Reddies (22-26, 11-17) faced the Ouachita Tigers in the first of a three-game series today.
Macy Hoskins had a two-home run day, but it wasn't enough, as Henderson State fell 11-10.
Henderson State opened the game on the board first, taking 2-0 lead.
Tatum Bittick struck a double to reach, before
Josie Copeland walked. Bittick and Copeland both advanced on a groundout by
Sam Flores, then both scored on a single by
Josie Golden. Ouachita put their first run in the bottom of the first to trail 2-1.
In the second inning,
Macy Hoskins hit a home run to left field to give the Reddies a 3-1 lead, then Akers hit a single. After
Tatum Bittick walked, a throw scored Akers, and Bittick advanced to second. Ouachita captured the lead in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs to take a 6-4 lead.
The Reddies rallied in the fifth inning, as Bittick walked then stole second, before advancing to third on a single by Copeland. Pinch runner
Kyndlee Clark stole second, then on the throw, Bittick scored from third. Golden walked, then Albiter reached on an error.
Paige Brandes walked to score Clark from third, leaving the bases loaded for Hoskins, who crushed a grand slam to score all four runs, and the Reddies led 10-6.
Ouachita scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead, and they held the Reddies scoreless the rest of the game, ultimately winning 11-10.
The Reddies recorded 10 runs on eight hits.
Macy Hoskins went 3-5 with a double, home run and a grand slam, recording five RBIs.
Josie Golden went 1-2 with two RBIs.
Presley Applegate earned the start for the Reddies, pitching 4.0 innings, giving up eight runs on five hits, striking out five and walking five.
Jersey Cabana (11-11) earned the loss pitching two innings in relief, giving up three runs.
