Baseball Splits Doubleheader, Takes Series from Tech

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State split a Great American Conference doubleheader against Arkansas Tech on Friday at Clyde Berry Field, falling 8-0 in the opener before responding with a 14-1 win in the second game.

Game One- Arkansas Tech 8, Henderson State 0


Arkansas Tech took control early in Game 1 and did not allow Henderson State to recover. The Wonder Boys scored in the first inning after back-to-back Henderson State errors to start the game and added two runs in the third to build a 3-0 lead.


Arkansas Tech extended the margin with a three-run fifth inning and added single runs in the sixth and ninth. Henderson State was limited to eight hits and did not score, stranding eight runners.


Nate Moore, Tanner Ross, Cale Edmonds, and Caleb Bryant each recorded hits for the Reddies. Dawson Goines (2-3) took the loss after allowing six runs, four earned, over five innings.


Game Two- Henderson State 14, Arkansas Tech 1


Henderson State answered in Game 2 with its most productive offensive performance of the series. The Reddies broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Bryant and an RBI double from Ross.


The game turned in the fourth when Henderson State scored seven runs. Trevor Flake delivered a three-run triple, and Boe Rodriguez added a two-run double as the Reddies pushed the lead to 11-1.


Henderson State added three more runs in the fifth to cap the scoring. The Reddies finished with 15 hits, including three from Cole McClendon and three RBI from Edmonds, who also hit a home run.


Rhett Richardson (4-1) earned the win, allowing one run on three hits over six innings while striking out five. Henderson State did not commit an error in the second game and turned two double plays.


The split moved Henderson State to 21-15 overall and 12-13 in GAC play. Arkansas Tech left Arkadelphia at 21-19 overall and 17-8 in conference play.
