Fourteen Hits, Thirteen Runs Power Reddies to Midweek Win at Ouachita

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State used two decisive innings to pull away for a 13-4 win over Ouachita on Tuesday at Rab Rodgers Field.

The Reddies (22-14) broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning and added four more in the eighth, collecting 14 hits and drawing 10 walks.

Trailing 2-1 entering the fourth, Henderson State sent nine hitters to the plate and took control with a sequence of run-producing plays.

Ryan Wardlaw opened the inning with a single, and Hank Penfield followed with a walk. Caleb Bryant drove in the tying run with a single to right center, scoring Wardlaw and moving Penfield to third. Bryant then stole second, and Boe Rodriguez worked a walk to load the bases.

A wild pitch brought Penfield home to give Henderson State a 3-2 lead while advancing both runners. Nate Moore followed with an infield single to score Bryant and push the lead to 4-2. After Moore stole second, Tanner Ross drew an intentional walk to reload the bases.

Cale Edmonds delivered the key hit of the inning, lining a single to center field that scored Rodriguez and Moore for a 6-2 advantage.

Henderson State extended the margin with another multi-run frame in the eighth.
Wardlaw started the inning with a single, and Penfield followed with a base hit to put two runners on. Bryant drove both in with a double to left field, scoring Wardlaw and Penfield for an 11-4 lead.

Rodriguez added an RBI single through the left side to score Bryant. Moore followed with a single, and a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position. Trevor Flake drew a walk, and Rodriguez scored on another wild pitch to cap the four-run inning at 13-4.

Three different players recorded multiple hits for HSU. Bryant finished 3-for-5 with six RBIs, including a sacrifice fly in the second inning that tied the game at 1-1. Wardlaw went 4-for-6 with three runs scored, and Moore recorded three hits and two walks.

Jayce Moore (1-2) started for Henderson State, earning the win after allowing two runs on three hits over four innings. The Reddies bullpen combined to hold Ouachita to two runs over the final five innings.

Ouachita (18-19) scored single runs in the first and second innings and added runs in the sixth and seventh but did not threaten after Henderson State's eighth-inning surge.

The Reddies are back in action Friday night as they open a three-game home series with Northwestern Oklahoma State.
