ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Reddies (16-23, 7-14) hosted the Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles for a mid-week doubleheader today, and the Reddies came out with a sweep, winning game one 3-2, then securing the sweep with a 6-2 win in game two.
Game One: Henderson State 3, TAMUT 2
The Eagles were the first to strike in game one, as in the top of the first they used an infield single to score the first run. The Reddies struck back however, as
Hilary Akers hit a leadoff single to center field to get on base.
Josie Copeland then crushed a home run to center field to give Henderson State the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second.
In the second inning, Texarkana tied it up off a single, to make it 2-2. Henderson State held the Eagles scoreless for the rest of the game, while in the fifth inning,
Josie Golden cracked a home run to center field to give the Reddies a 3-2 lead.
The Reddies recorded three runs on eight hits.
Josie Golden went 3-3 with a double, a home run, and an RBI.
Josie Copeland went 1-3 with a 2 RBI home run.
Jersey Cabana (7-10) earned the start for the Reddies today, pitching six innings, while giving up two runs on seven hits, while striking out two batters.
Presley Applegate came in relief in the seventh inning and pitched the save, giving up only one hit and striking out two batters.
Game Two: Henderson State 6, TAMUT 2
In game two, Texarkana struck first, scoring off a single to take the 1-0 lead. Henderson State rallied in the third inning, scoring four runs to take a 4-1 lead.
Mazzi Jones started off the inning with a single, before advancing to second after Akers walked.
Tatum Bittick hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Jones to third, while Akers was called out on a fielder's choice at second, while Bittick reached first. After stealing second, Bittick advanced to third, while Jones scored on a single by Copeland. Pinch runner
Kyndlee Clark stole second and then advanced to third off an error by the catcher, while Bittick stole home.
A double by Golden scored both Clark and Bittick and the Reddies led 4-1. Texarkana managed to score a run in the fourth inning to narrow the lead to 4-2, but a strong fifth inning secured the win for Henderson State.
Josie Copeland opened the inning with a double, then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Abby Brinkley. A single by
Josie Golden scored Copeland, before Golden advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Paige Brandes singled to right field to score Golden, and the Reddies held on to win 6-2.
The Reddie offense scored six runs on ten hits.
Josie Golden secured three RBIs with a double on a 2-3 day, while
Josie Copeland went 2-4 with an RBI and a double.
Paige Brandes went a perfect 3-3 with an RBI.
Presley Applegate (8-11) earned the start today, pitching a complete game. Applegate gave up only two runs on seven hits, while striking out five batters.
