Nelson Takes First at Desert Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. – Henderson State's Lily Nelson won her second individual championship of the 2025-26 golf season with a first-place finish at the Desert Invitational after a 4-under 68 on Tuesday. 

The Newcastle, Colorado senior shot her best individual round of the season with Tuesday's 68 after firing a one-over 73 in Monday's first round.


The Reddies finished ninth in the 14-team field in their last match before the GAC Championship begins play on Monday. Host West Texas A&M won the tournament with a score of 14-over through the 36-hole event. HSU finished at 52-over.


Nelson was the story of the day on Tuesday, starting with two birdies and an eagle in her first five holes. The senior carded five birdies in the second round after just one in Monday's opening round. She finished two strokes ahead of second-place finisher Sarah Reed of West Texas A&M.


Paulina Narvaez finished 35th individually after rounds of 73 and 84. Lora Jones and Hailey Coleman finished as part of a tie for 58th; Jones shot rounds of 84 and 82, while Coleman turned in scores of 81 and 85. Isabella Ferreira finished 67th in the field after rounds of 86 and 82.


The Reddies are back in action Monday at the GAC Championship. HSU will look for its sixth straight GAC championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Stone Creek Course at Page Belcher beginning on Monday, April 13th.
