Women's Golf in Fifth Place After Day One of UIndy Invitational

HENRYVILLE, Ind. – A fast start out of the gate has kept Henderson State women's golf in contention through 36 holes of the UIndy Invitational. Tuesday's action featured 36 holes of play, with 13 teams competing at Champions Pointe Golf Club in Henryville, Indiana.

Lincoln Memorial sits in first place: the Railsplitters are the only team under par, shooting six-under as a team. Grand Valley State (+17), host UIndy (+20), and McKendree (+26) sit ahead of the Reddies, who finished the day at +36.

Henderson shot 14-over as a team in the opening round and was led by Lora Jones, who fired a four-under par 68. A colorful front nine featured four birdies and three bogeys before a clean back nine that featured an eagle on the 14th hole and a birdie on the 17th. Jones followed up with a seven-over 79 on the day's second round, which was highlighted by back-to-back birdies on holes two and three.

Freshman Bella Gutierrez began her HSU career with rounds of four-over par 76 and six-over par 78. After a first round that featured 14 pars, the Little Rock native birdied her first two holes as a collegian in a three-hole stretch in the second round before a back-nine 43 (+7) colored her scorecard.

Fellow newcomer Audrey McCallum was consistent throughout Tuesday's rounds. The Colleyville, Texas product turned in a six-over par 78 that featured one birdie in the first round. Her second round was a two-stroke improvement, as McCallum carded a four-over 76 that included four birdies. The 76 was the team's best individual score of the second round.

The third of three freshmen to suit up for Henderson, Teagen Muldoon turned in respectable scores on Tuesday, first shooting an eight-over par 80 with one birdie, and following that up with an improved five-over par 77, the second-best card for Henderson in the second round.

Fifth-year Hailey Coleman rounded out the scoring for HSU with rounds of 82 and 79. The Radcliff, Kentucky native turned in one birdie on the day.

Wednesday's third and final round will return to Champions Pointe, with a shotgun start scheduled for 7:30 a.m. central time.
