Marcus Walker begins his second season as the defensive backs coach at Henderson State in 2019.
During his first season with the Reddies, Walker's secondary unit produced an All-GAC selection, a GAC Defensive Player of the Week, and racked up 11 interceptions.
Walker came to Henderson in 2018 after a three-year stint as a graduate assistant at the University of Oklahoma. While coaching with the Sooners from 2015 to 2017, Oklahoma won three Big 12 titles and made two appearances in the College Football Playoff.
Before returning to Norman as a graduate assistant, Walker was a standout defensive back for the Sooners from 2004 to 2007, and helped lead Oklahoma to three Big 12 titles in 2004, 2006 and 2007. A two-time All-Big 12 pick at cornerback and a team captain as a senior in 2007, Walker played in three BCS bowl games, including the 2004 National Championship game against Southern California.
From 2008 to 2010, Walker spent time in the NFL with both the Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers. After leaving the NFL, Walker went back and finished his degree at Oklahoma in 2012 before securing his first coaching job as the cornerbacks coach at Norman North High School in 2014.
A native of Waco, Texas, Walker is a member of the Waco Independent School District Athletic Hall of Fame, where he was a 5-star prospect and U.S Army All-American out of Waco High School in 2004.
Walker has a bachelor’s degree in Multidisciplinary Studies, as well as two master’s degrees in Human Resources and Administrative Leadership, all from Oklahoma.
