Clyde Berry Field played host to a pair of low-scoring games on Tuesday afternoon as Henderson State and Lyon College totaled six runs across the 14-inning doubleheader in which Henderson State, behind a complete game from
Dusty Thornton, won the frontend game, 2-1, but dropped the backend game, 3-0.
The Reddies (12-9) staked Thornton to a 2-0 lead with RBI singles from
Dustin Hudson and
Jordan Trosclair in the first and second innings. Making his third start of the season, Thornton would make that score hold up until the top of the fourth inning when he surrendered a run on a sacrifice fly.
That would prove to be the lone blemish on Thornton's stat line as he would finish the game with one walk, two strikeouts, and six hits allowed. The complete game is Thornton's first of the season and the Reddies' eighth as a team.
Game two saw the Scots (20-11) take a 1-0 lead on a bases loaded walk in the second inning. Scots' starter Brendan Camp would make that one run be all that he would need as he did not allow a base runner to reach base until
Conner Brackhahn drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the seventh inning. Camp would induce a fly out following the walk to Brackhahn to hand the Reddies their second shutout loss of the season.
The Reddies will hit the road this upcoming weekend as they will take on Southwestern Oklahoma State University in a three-game Great American Conference series starting on Saturday, March 17th and wrapping up on Sunday, March 18th. First pitch on Saturday is set for 1:00 p.m.
