Hudson Belts Two Homeruns; Drives in Six in Pair of Losses

Dustin Hudson
Junior designated hitter Dustin Hudson went 5-for-8 with two homeruns and six RBIs as Henderson State dropped a Great American Conference doubleheader, 7-5 and 9-5, against Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday afternoon in Weatherford, Okla.

All six of Hudson's RBIs came via the long-ball, and each of the blasts came in the first inning of both games. His first homerun was a two-run shot that scored Josh Salmon, who had doubled in the Reddies' (12-11, 3-5 GAC) first run in the previous at-bat. His second homerun of the day came in game two when Hudson stepped up to the dish with no outs and the based loaded. The grand slam off Hudson's bat was his second grand slam of the season.

Despite getting a jolt from Hudson, the Reddies were unable to maintain either early lead. SWOSU climbed back in game one and took the lead, 7-4, with a run in the first inning and six runs over innings three-through-six. A solo homerun from Adam Ussery pulled the Reddies to within two runs, 7-5, but they were unable to get anymore runs, losing by that score.

Game two saw the Reddies jump out to an early 4-0 lead from Hudson's grand slam, but again, they had their lead cut down as the Bulldogs (14-6, 6-2 GAC) scored a pair of runs in the first inning. HSU would add a run in the third inning, but SWOSU scored two more run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Reddie lead to one run, 5-4. A solo homerun of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning tied the game at 5-all. The Bulldogs would pull out in front for good with four runs in the fifth inning and coasted to a 9-5 victory to earn the sweep.

The third and final game of the series is set for a 1:00 p.m. start on Sunday afternoon.
