Henderson State's hopes of clinching a spot in the Great American Conference Baseball Tournament next week were put on hold as Ouachita Baptist beat the Reddies 10-7 and 8-5, Saturday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Reddies, 22-25 overall and 10-13 in the GAC, needs a win Sunday or a Southeastern Oklahoma win over East Central to clinch the sixth and final spot in the GAC Tournament.
In the opener, the Reddies squandered a 7-4 lead as OBU scored three runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth-inning to win 10-7.
Trailing 4-2 in the sixth-inning, the Reddies stuck for five runs to take a three-run lead.
Mitch Frey started things with his third hit of the game.
Tripp Reeves then reached on a walk followed by a bunt single by
Zac Zdanowicz to load the bases.
Jordan Trosclair then reached on a fielder's choice to score Frey while Zdanowicz advanced to second on an error and Reeves advanced
to third.
Conner Brackhahn next delivered a two-run double to left field to chase starting OBU pitcher Ryan Westover.
Michael Corso drove in Henderson's fourth run of the inning when he lined
out to centerfield which scored Trosclair.
Dustin Hudson brought home the final run of the frame when he grounded out to second to score Brackhahn.
Ouachita Baptist, scored three runs in the eighth-inning with two outs to tie the game at 7-7.
The Tigers added three runs in the ninth with the big blow being a two run single by Landon Flax.
Dustin Hudson was tabbed with the loss in a relief role to fall to 3-4 on the year.
In the night cap, the Tigers took an early 3-0 lead before the Reddies plated a run in the third as Zdanowicz and Brackhahn both had doubles to make the score 3-1 after three innings.
Henderson tied the score at 3-3 in the fifth-inning as Trosclair belted a two-run double down the left-field line to score Frey who reached on an error and Reeves who singled.
OBU answered in the sixth with three consecutive doubles by Parker Norris, Landon Moore and Flax to make the score 5-3.
The Reddies countered in the bottom half of the inning as
Adam Ussery and
Michael Corso both doubled to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Frey then tied the score at 5-5 with a single to left-center field to score
Taylor Coleman who pinch ran for Corso and stole second.
OBU broke the tie in the ninth scoring three unearned runs with two outs.
With a runner on second, Moore hit a ground ball to second base which was misplayed by Reeves to keep the inning alive. After a Flax bunt single put the Tigers ahead, Duncan Collins hit a double to center field to plate two more runs and put the game away.
The Reddies and Tigers will close out the regular-season on Sunday with the finale of the series set for 1 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
