REDDIES LOSE IN GAC OPENER TO SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA 5-4

Michael Schell was 2-for-4 with 2 home runs on Friday.
Box Score Henderson State saw its four-game winning streak come to an end as Southeastern Oklahoma beat the Reddies 5-4, Friday in Durant, Okla.

The Reddies rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth-inning, but Southeastern Oklahoma scored an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning to win the first
game of the three-game Great Amercian Conference series.

Henderson State, 4-1 overall and 0-1 in the GAC,  took the early lead as Michael Schell got things started with a solo home run to left field.

Schell, who did not have a home run in 2012, hit his third home run of 2013 in the sixth-inning to extend Henderson's lead to 2-0.

After allowing just one hit through five innings, Reddie starting pitcher Nathan Eller had difficulties in the sixth.

With one-out, Southeastern's Chevis Springer hit his second double of the game to begin the inning for the Savage Storm. After Tucker Alexander received a base on balls, Evan Ramsey entered the game to pinch hit for Vance Woodruff.

Ramsey gave the home team the lead with one swing of the bat as the sophomore blasted a 3-run home run to put Southeastern on top 3-2 and chase Eller from the game.

Southeastern, 3-2 on the year and 1-0 in the GAC, added a run in the eighth-inning as the Savage Storm put together three hits with Ramsey having a run-scoring single for his fourth RBI of the game.

With Henderson State down to its final out in the ninth, Ben Wainwright doubled to centerfield and Matt Evans singled to right field to put runners on the corners. After Evans advanced on a wild pitch, Dustin Hudson hit a double down the left field line to tie the game at 4-4.

In the Southeastern ninth, Henderson relief pitcher Beau Fulcher retired the first two batters he faced before walking both Springer and Josh Smith.

Jordan Wright entered the game for the Reddies and loaded the base as Ryan Salter received a free pass. The Savage Storm's game-winning run came as Tucker Alexander reached on a Reddie throwing error which allowed pinch-runner Robby Nunez to score.

Eller pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing three hits, three earned runs, while recording four strikeouts. Fulcher pitched 1 2/3 innings and was tabbed with the loss.

Brandon Morris started the game on the mound for Southeastern and pitched seven innings allowing just two hits while striking out eight Reddie batters.

Cameron Mann pitched the final two innings to pick up the win in a relief role.

The two teams will play a double-header on Saturday with the first pitch of the twin bill set for Noon.
