Box Score A 9-run fourth-inning and a stellar pitching performance by
Austin Coble helped Henderson State win a double-header from Southeastern Oklahoma 2-0 and 9-4, Saturday in Durant, Okla.
By winning Saturday's double-header over the Savage Storm, the Reddies win the series despite a tough 5-4 loss on Friday.
In game one, Coble pitched 8 innings and gave up just two hits while striking out four Savage Storm batters to pick up his second win of the season.
Jordan Wright pitched the final inning in relief and picked up his second save of the year striking out two batters.
Coble never faced more than four batters in any one inning as he faced just three batters over the minimum.
The Reddies, 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the Great American Conference, scored their first run of the game in the fourth-inning as
Carlos Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch. Rodriguez lined a single to left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. The Reddies then loaded the bases as
Michael Schell walked and
Mitch Frey was hit by a pitch before Rodriguez scored.
It was Rodriguez again that started things for the Reddies in the sixth-inning as he singled up the middle and again scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.
In the finale of the series, Henderson State trailed 4-0 in the fourth-inning before erupting for nine runs in the frame on just four hits.
The Reddies loaded the bases as
Tadarious Hawkins and
Michael Corso both walked with
Ben Wainwright reaching on a fielder's choice.
Henderson's first run came when Coble was hit by a pitch to plate Hawkins. With one-out, Schell laced a single up the middle to score both Corso and Wainwright.
Jeff Beck was the benefactor of a SOSU fielding error that put runners on the corners with Coble scoring to tie the game at 4-4. Frey gave the Reddies the lead with a long sacrifice fly to right field to score Schell.
The Reddie inning continued as
Zac Zdanowicz laid down a bunt single advancing Beck to third base. After Zdanowicz stole second, Hawkins was given a free pass to load the bases again for Henderson and set the stage for Corso.
Corso plated two more runs with a base hit as Zdanowicz and Beck both scored with Hawkins advancing to third. Corso then stole second and advanced to third on throwing error which allowed Hawkins to score. Corso scored the ninth run of the inning on the Savage Storm's third throwing error in the frame.
Dustin Hudson pitched five innings, scattering five hits to pick up the win, while Wright closed out the game pitching the final two innings striking out three batters.
The Reddies will return home on Tuesday to face Arkansas Tech in a non-conference game with the first pitch set for 2 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
