Henderson State opened the 2013 baseball season with a pair of wins over Cameron as the Reddies beat the Aggies 5-4 and 8-1 on Saturday in Lawton, Okla.
The Reddies began the year in dramatic fashion as Henderson rallied for a pair of runs in the seventh-inning as
Michael Corso delivered a two-out single for the win.
Cameron scored three runs in the opening inning, but the Reddies tied the score in the third-inning as Andy Reynolds began things with a single.
With two-outs,
Jeff Beck then singled and Corso reached base on a walk to load the bases for
Carlos Rodriguez. Rodriguez delivered with a single to score Reynolds for Henderson's first run of the season.
Ben Wainwright then tied the game with a two-run base hit.
The Aggies regained the lead in the fifth frame, but Henderson again fought back as
Austin Coble began the seventh-inning with a single.
Zac Zdanowicz then reached on an error which scored Coble to tie the score. Two batters later Corso delivered his game-winning hit which plated Zdanowicz.
Dustin Hudson pitched six-innings and struck out three batters to pick up the win on the mound for the Reddies, while
Jordan Wright came in to pitch the final inning to pick up the save.
In the nightcap,
Michael Schell blasted a three-run homer and the Reddies got a stellar pitching performance from veteran pitcher
Nathan Eller as Henderson completed the double-header sweep.
Eller pitched six innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six batters.
Corso was 3-for-5 in the two games, while Schell was 2-for-4 with a home run and four runs batted in.
The Reddies and the Aggies will finish the four-game series with a double-header on Sunday beginning at Noon.
