Michael Schell's run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth-inning propelled Henderson State to a 12-11 win over Southwestern Oklahoma, Friday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia. Ark.
The game featured the two teams combining for 29 hits and the use of 10 different pitchers.
Henderson State, 14-8 overall and 9-4 in the Great American Conference, surrendered the lead three times before Schell's big hit in the eighth.
Southwestern Oklahoma, 11-11 overall and 4-6 in league play, jumped out to a 3-0 before the Reddies tied the score in the bottom of the second with the help of a RBI double by
Jeff Beck.
The Reddies took their first lead in the third on a single by Schell which plated
Zac Zdanowicz who singled earlier in the inning.
SWOSU regained the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs, but the Reddies again answered in the bottom half of the inning as Zdanowicz hit a two-out double and scored on a single by
Austin Coble.
Michael Corso extended the Reddie lead to 9-5 in the fifth-inning with a two-run home run.
The Bulldogs then exploded for six runs in the sixth-inning to take an 11-9 advantage, making the most of three walks, two hit batters, and three doubles.
Henderson was forced to use five pitchers in the inning before
Matt Evans struck out Zack Mang to end the Reddie nightmare.
The Reddies rallied again as
Taylor Coleman led off the inning with a walk and Zdanowicz reaching on his third hit of the game. After Coble laid down a bunt to load the bases, Corso tied the score at 11-11 with a two-run double.

Jordan Wright entered the game to begin the seventh-inning and proceeded to retire the next nine straight batters, striking out three batters and improving to 2-0 on the year.
In the Reddie eighth, Zdanowicz again doubled to lead off the inning. After a sacrifice bunt by Coble advanced Zdanowicz to third, Schell belted his second single of the game to right field to provide the game-winning run.
Zdanowicz went 4-for-5 on the afternoon, scoring four runs while having two doubles. Corso went 3-for-5 with four RBI, while Schell, Frey, and
Dustin Hudson had two hits each.
The Reddies and Bulldogs will finish the series with a double-header on Saturday at Clyde Berry Field with the first-pitch set for noon.
