Southwestern Oklahoma belted out 33 hits to beat Henderson State 9-8 and 7-3, Saturday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia. Ark.
In the opener, the Bulldogs put together eight hits and scored six runs in the sixth-inning to rally for the win.
Henderson State, 14-10 overall and 9-6 in the Great American Conference, took a 5-2 lead with a four-run fourth-inning.
Michael Schell and
Dustin Hudson both had two-run singles in the inning.
Following SWOSU's big inning, the Reddies were able to cut the deficit to 9-7 in the bottom of the sixth.
Schell clubbed out his third hit of the game to lead off the inning and later scored on a ground out by
Jeff Beck.
Carlos Rodriguez also singled and scored on a wild pitch.
The Reddies manufactured a run in the seventh, but failed to score in the final two innings despite having the leadoff batter reach base both innings.
Henderson collected 11 hits in the game, but the Reddies squandered several scoring opportunities leaving 12 runners on base.
In the finale, the Bulldogs built a 4-0 lead before the Reddies scored three runs in the third inning.
Matt Evans led off the frame with a single followed by
Mitch Frey receiving a walk.
Zac Zdanowicz produced the first run for Henderson, blasting a single to score Evans.
Frey later scored on a ground out by Schell, then Zdanowicz was driven in by a single from
Michael Corso.
The Reddies would not put together another serious threat as Cole Stephens and Kevin Kelly limited Henderson to two hits in the final four innings.
Zdanowicz was 3-for-6 in the double-header, with Schell also having three hits on the day.
Henderson State will next play host to Southern Arkansas in a non-conference game on Tuesday at Clyde Berry Field with the first pitch set for 2 p.m.
