REDDIES SWEEP UAM IN SATURDAY DOUBLE-HEADER

Henderson State rebounded from an opening series loss to Arkansas-Monticello as the Reddies swept a double-header from the Boll Weevils to win the series, Saturday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Reddies, 12-4 on the season and 7-2 in the Great American Conference used late inning rallies to win both games by scores of 3-2 and 3-1.

In the opener, Arkansas-Monticello loaded the bases in the first-inning with the help of a Reddie error and back-to-back singled by Ben Agredano and Hunter Allday. Ray Johnson gave UAM the early 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly.

Henderson State tied the game in the third on an RBI double by Zac Zdanowicz which scored Jeff Beck who singled earlier in the inning.

UAM regained the lead in the fifth-inning with T.J. Cox leading off the inning with a double and later scoring on an error.

The Reddies manufactured a pair of runs in the seventh with Mitch Frey having a run-scoring single to left field and later scoring on a sacrifice fly by Zdanowicz.

Jordan Wright then took over for Reddie starting pitcher Austin Coble and proceeded to strikeout three batters to pick up the save. Coble improved to 4-0 on the year, scattering four hits and striking out three Boll Weevils in seven innings of work.

In the series finale, again UAM took a 1-0 lead in the first-inning benefitting on a Reddie error.

Henderson tied the score in the second as Tadarious Hawkins singled with two-outs to plate Andy Reynolds who singled earlier in the frame.

The Reddies took the lead in the fifth as Frey doubled and scored on a Zdanowicz sacrifice fly.

Carlos Rodriguez provided the Reddies with an insurance run in the sixth with a single to center field which scored Michael Corso who doubled to lead off the inning.

Dustin Hudson started on the bump for the Reddies and pitched five innings to pick up the win and improve to 4-0 on the year.

Wright again pitched the final two innings striking out four batters to record his second save of the weekend and his fifth of the year.
The Reddies will play UAM on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in a non-conference game in Monticello, Ark.
