REDDIES AND RANGERS SPLIT DOUBLE HEADER

Jordan Wright tied a Henderson State record and Zac Zdanowicz collected five hits as the Reddies split a double header with Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Okla.

The Reddies, 15-12 overall and 10-7 in the Great American Conference, won game one of the series 4-3, while the Rangers scored six runs in the final two innings to win the second game 8-6.

In the opener, the Reddies scored three runs in the third-inning to take a 3-0 lead. The inning began with a double by Dustin Hudson and a bunt single by Tadarious Hawkins.

Mitch Frey forced home the first run of the game with a sacrifice bunt, followed by Zdanowicz reaching on a single to right field to put runners on the corners. Austin Coble made the score 2-0 with another sacrifice bunt with Michael Schell
driving home Zdanowicz on a single to right field.

The Rangers, 16-12 overall and 5-9 in the GAC, struck for a run in the fourth and fifth innings to make the score 3-2.
Henderson State managed to extend the lead to 4-2 as Michael Corso hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Zdanowicz who singled to lead off the inning.

Wright relieved Reddie starting pitcher Nathan Eller in the eighth-inning. Wright gave up a run in the eighth-inning then the Rangers loaded the bases in the ninth with only one out. Wright got out of the jam as Jonathan Freemyer grounded into a game-ending double play.

Wright picked up his sixth save of the year tying Josh Wesson's record set in 2011.

Eller improved to 3-1 on the season striking out four batters and allowing six hits.

In game two, the Reddies built a 6-2 lead with the help of a three-run home run by Zdanowicz, but the Rangers rallied for four runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth.

Zdanowicz ended the day going 5-for-7 with three runs scored and three runs batted in, while Corso was 4-for-8 with a double.

The two teams will play the finale of the series on Saturday with the first pitch set for 11 a.m. in Alva, Okla.
