Carlos Rodriguez's three-run home run in the first-inning led Henderson State to a 3-2 win over Lyon, Tuesday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Henderson's win snapped the Scots' 14-game win streak as the Reddies improved to 17-12 on the year, while Lyon fell to 27-6.
Lyon scored an unearned run in the first-inning to take a 1-0 advantage. After Reddie starting pitcher
Ethan Jones struck out the first two batters, Colby Rogers doubled down the left field line. Bryan Lynn moved Rogers to third when reached on an error to extend the inning. Rogers then scored on a single by Blake Rogers.
Henderson also scored its runs with two outs.
Michael Schell walked followed by a single by
Dustin Hudson. Rodriquez then took a Colten McSpadden pitch over the left-center field fence for Henderson's lone runs of the game.
Lyon added a run in the third and threatened to put together big innings in the fourth and fifth, but Jones pitched his way out of bases loaded jams both times.
Jones recorded his first win of the season to improve to 1-4. Jones scattered eight hits and struck out four Lyon batters.
Four Reddie pitchers shared the duties the final four innings with
Ryan Black,
Matt Evans,
Matt Turner and Jordon Wright working an inning each. Wright retired the side in order in the ninth to pick up his eighth save of the year.
Henderson had ample opportunities to score, but the Reddies stranded nine base runners and hit into two double plays.
Taylor Coleman and Tadarius Hawkins had three hits each to lead the Reddies offensively.
Henderson State returns to action on Friday as the Reddies begin a three-game Great American Conference series against Southern Nazarene. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
