Henderson State's ninth-inning rally fell short as Southern Arkansas beat the Reddies 7-4, Friday in Magnolia, Ark.
Trailing 7-1 in the ninth-inning,
Michael Corso led things off when he doubled to left field. It was Corso's third hit of the game.
With two outs and
Austin Coble reaching on a base on balls, the Muleriders committed three straight errors leading to three Reddie runs.
Henderson State again loaded the bases as
Zac Zdanowicz was hit by a pitch. However SAU relief pitcher Cory Roper ended the game by getting
Jeff Beck to fly out to end the game.
The Reddies, 12-6 overall and 7-3 in the Great American Conference took an early 1-0 lead in the second-inning when
Carlos Rodriguez scored on a single by
Matt Evans.
Rodriguez reached earlier in the inning with a base hit of his own.
Southern Arkansas, 15-7 overall and 9-1 in league play, tied the score in the bottom half of the inning and took the lead in the third on a two-run homer by David Harris.
The Muleriders exploded for four runs in the fifth clubbing out five hits in the inning.
Nathan Eller surrendered seven runs on 10 hits to take the loss on the mound and fall to 2-1 on the year.
The two teams will continue the series with a double-header Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
