REDDIES LOSE A PAIR TO TOP-RANKED DSU

Henderson State's bid to knock off top-ranked Delta State fell short as the Statesmen took a double-header from the Reddies winning 6-3 and 4-1, Tuesday in Cleveland, Miss.

Delta State used a four-run fifth-inning in the first game and a three-run fifth in game two to beat the Reddies.

In the opener, the Statesmen jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first-inning as Michael Vinson hit a two-out single to right field to score Sam Kidd who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.
 
The Reddies, 22-23 on the season, struck for a pair of runs in the third-inning by putting together three hits to take a 2-1 lead.
 
With two outs, Tadarius Hawkins and Jeff Beck had back-to-back singles to get things started.
 
Michael Corso reached when he was hit by a pitch to load the bases with Ben Wainwright scoring Hawkins and Beck with a single to center field.
 
The Reddie lead didn't last long as Ben Kingsley drove home Tyler Aldridge to tie the game at 2-2 after three innings. Aldridge reached when he lined a two-out tripled to left-center field.
 
Delta State then scored four runs in the fifth-inning with the help of a three-run home run by Kingsley.
 
The Reddies threatened in the seventh-inning as they loaded the bases getting singles from Mitch Frey, Jordan Trosclair, and Hawkins. Beck grounded out for the second out of the inning with Frey scoring on the play.
 
With two outs, relief pitcher Garrett Pikens struck out Corso to end the game.

The Reddies scored the first run of game two in the second-inning as Jeff Beck scored on a throwing error following an Andrew Reynolds single.
 
Delta State tied the score at 1-1 in the fourth-inning and scored three runs in the fifth with the help of four walks issued by Reddie pitching.
 
Henderson loaded the bases in the sixth, but was unable to score as relief pitcher Taylor Stark was able to get Austin Coble and Beck to ground out to end the inning.
 
The Reddies managed just three hits in the game with Corso having the lone extra-base hit, a double in the fourth-inning.

Henderson State will complete the regular-season with a three-game Great American Conference series at Ouachita Baptist. The series will begin with a single nine-inning game on Friday at 3 p.m. and a double-header at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Rab Rodgers Field.
