Matt Evans' one-out RBI single in the top of the ninth-inning lifted Henderson State to a 3-2 win over Ouachita Baptist, Saturday at Rab Rodgers Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Henderson State, 23-23 overall and 17-11 in the Great American Conference, clinched a spot in next week's GAC Tournament in Enid, Okla. with the victory.
OBU, 20-24-1 and 12-16 in the GAC, took an early 2-0 lead scoring both runs in the first-inning.
Landon Flax led things off for the Tigers with a double to right field followed by Duncan Collins being hit by a
Nathan Eller pitch.
With no outs, Keegan Ghidotti loaded the bases with a bunt single. OBU's first run came when Chris Tavares was hit by a pitch to score Flax.
Ellers got Will Wallace to ground out into a double-play but the Tigers were able to score the second run of the inning. Ellers then got out of the inning getting Jace Melby to ground out.
OBU starting pitcher Davis Ward was cruising along until the Reddies scratched for a pair of unearned runs in the fifth-inning to tie the score at 2-2.
With one-out,
Austin Coble walked to get the inning started with
Mitch Frey reaching on an OBU error. After
Andrew Reynolds flew out to centerfield, Tadarius Hawkins laced a two-out single to right field to score both Coble and Frey.
OBU threatened in the eighth-inning loading the bases, but Reddie relief pitcher
Jordan Wright got McCrae Jones to line out into a double-play to get out of the inning.
The Reddie ninth-inning began with
Michael Corso hitting a single to left field.
Jordan Trosclair entered the game to run for Corso and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by
Jeff Beck.
Ben Wainwright received an intentional walk before Evans collected his game-winning single which scored Trosclair.
Wright struckout the first two batters he faced in the OBU ninth before giving up a walk to Flax. However, the junior right-
hander got Collins to fly out to center field to end the game.
Eller had a solid pitching performance going 7 1/3 innings allowing seven hits and striking out six batters in a no-decision.
Wright finished the game striking out two batters to pick up the win and improve to 4-1 on the year.
The two teams will finish the regular-season with a double-header on Sunday at Rab Rodgers Field with the first pitch set for Noon.
