Henderson State totaled 563 yards of offense, while the defense combined for 16 tackles for lost yards as the Reddies rolled to a 49-7 win over Arkansas-Monticello, Saturday at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium.
Kevin Rodgers went over 300 yards passing for 24th time in his career, completing 28-of-36 attempts for 346 yards and three touchdown passes.
Rodgers became the Arkansas state leader in career total offense surpassing Ryan Aplin of Arkansas State. Rodgers ran his total to 12,813 yards of total offense. The Rockwall, Texas product also moved into sixth-place in career passing yards in NCAA Division II history. Rodgers has thrown for 12,856 yards in 40 games, surpassing Eric Czerniewski of Central Missouri who totaled 12,847 yards in 47 games from 2006-10.
Dustin Holland became only the third player in HSU history to record 2,000 career receiving yards as the senior from Benton, Ark. caught a season-best seven passes for 100 yards including a 45-yard touchdown. Holland joins
Darius Davis and
Robert Jordan as the only players in HSU history to eclipse the 2000 yard mark.
Davis also made history becoming the first player at Henderson State to post back-to-back seasons with 1000 receiving yards, as the senior from Frisco, Texas product had six catches for 88 yards including touchdown receptions of 16 and 63 yards. Davis also posted his first rushing touchdown of the year 8 yards.
Additionally, Davis set the Henderson State career scoring record running career total to 290 points passing Blake Christenson who totaled 274 points from 2001 to 2004.
Henderson State, 8-1 overall and 7-1 in the Great American Conference, jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the opening quarter as
Rodney Bryson started things with an 8-yard run followed by Davis' first touchdown reception of the game.
After Davis' 63-yard score midway through the second quarter, UAM scored its only touchdown on a 17-yard pass from Hunter Leppert to Jalen Tolliver with 36 seconds left in the half.
The Reddies struck again to end the half when Rodgers connected with Holland for a 45-yard strike following a 34-yard kickoff return by
JaVante Mack.
Jaquan Cole provided the only score of the third quarter with a 9-yard run to put Henderson on top 35-7 with 6:43 left in the period.
Davis opened the final quarter with his 8-yard touchdown run, while
Zann Jones caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from
Dallas Hardison for the final score of the game.
Henderson's RED SWARM defense gave UAM fits all day recording a season best 16 tackles for lost yardage including 8 quarterback sacks.
Henry Davis ended the game with eight tackles including 2.5 stops for lost yardage, while
Blake Lopez had 7 tackles, 2 for losses and a forced fumble.
Lawson Schulz also had a big game with 2 ½ tackles for loss and a fumble recovery, with
Glennon Bobo having 3 tackles for negative yardage, two forced fumbles and three quarterback hurries.
Wesley Brady had a big game in the secondary with five tackles, an interception and three pass breakups.
Henderson State will travel to El Dorado next Saturday to participate in the Murphy USA Classic against Southern Arkansas at Memorial Stadium with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
