WINONA STATE RALLIES TO BEAT HENDERSON STATE 3-2

Travis Evanson's run-scoring double in the seventh inning lifted Winona State to a 3-2 victory over Henderson State Saturday on the first day of the Houston Winter Invitational in Houston, Texas at Minute Maid Park.

Tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Evanson doubled down the right field line off of relief pitcher Steven Brooks to score Ryan Nyhagen who had singled one batter earlier.

Henderson State struck first, scoring twice in the top of the third-inning as Conner Brackhahn led off the inning with a triple to right-center field.

With one out, AJ Kruzel walked and Joseph Gary singled home Brackhahn, advancing Kruzel to third. Lance Fields the drove home Kruzel on a sacrifice fly.

Winona State tied the game in the bottom of the fifth as the Warriors loaded the bases. Tyler Nehring drove in the first run on a fielder's choice, with Brett Young providing a RBI single to right field.

The Reddies had a golden opportunity in the eighth-inning as Fields led off the frame being hit by a pitch. Andrew Reynolds then reached on a fielder's choice with Fields beating the play at second.

After Hunter Mayall entered the game to run for Reynolds, Jesse Grace then down a sacrifice bunt that advanced both runners a base. Tadarious Hawkins then loaded the bases when he reached on a walk.

WSU pitcher Joseph Kubera then struck out Matt Evans and force Brackhahn to fly out to second base to end the inning.

Henderson State stranded 12 runners in the game including leaving six runners in scoring position.

Hawkins led the Reddie offense with two hits including a double.

Henderson State will next take on No. 19 Central Missouri on Sunday with first pitch slated for 2 p.m.
