Henderson State's late-inning rally fell short as the Reddies lost a non-conference affair to Arkansas Tech 6-4, Tuesday in Russellville, Ark.
Arkansas Tech, 8-2 on the season, held a 6-0 lead through seven innings benefitting on four Henderson State errors.
Meanwhile, the Reddies managed just three hits and three base runners through the first seven innings.
Henderson State, 2-8 overall, started to put things together in the eighth-inning as
Lee Richardson began the inning being hit by a pitch.
The Reddies scored their first run when
Conner Brackhahn hit a double to right field to score
Hayden Daniel who pinch ran for Richardson. Brackhahn then scored when Hayden Lessenbery had a pinch-hit single to make the score 6-2.
Henderson State put together another rally in the ninth-inning as the Reddies loaded the base with no outs to begin the frame.
Matt Evans started things with a walk followed by
Carlos Rodriguez reaching on an error and
AJ Kruzel having a single to left field.
Will Powell then drove in
Matt Evans with a single, but the Reddies could not get another big hit as Henderson managed just one more run on a
Hunter Mayall fielder's choice.
The Reddies totaled seven hits in the game with
Lance Fields leading the way with a pair of singles.
Freshman
Dylan Howell made his first collegiate start for the Reddies on the mound, pitching five solid innings allowing four runs on four hits but was tabbed with the loss.
Mason Reynolds, who struck out five of the first six Reddie hitters, ended the game with 10 punch outs in seven innings of work to pick up the win.
Henderson State will next play a three-game Great American Conference series against East Central Oklahoma beginning Friday at 2 p.m. in Ada, Okla.
